"HyperCard is a Macintosh software environment that allows you to
create your own ways of doing things on your computer. If you're new
to HyperCard, you should go through the "HyperCard Tour" stack to
find out how HyperCard works.

If youre interested in HyperTalk, the language you use to write
scripts, open the "HyperTalk Reference" stack, accessible from the
"Stack Kit" card of the HyperCard "Home" stack, or from the Help menu
of the "HyperCard Help" stack.

What you need to use HyperCard 2.1

To use HyperCard, you need the following minimum hardware and
software:

A Macintosh computer with 1 megabyte (MB) of memory or more. To run
HyperCard under MultiFinder, your system should have at least 2 MB of
memory.

System software version 6.0.5 or later.

The appropriate printer driver for your printer - it must be the
version that comes with system software version 6.0.5 or later."

-------------------------------------------------------------

This is the full 800K floppy disk set in Disk Copy 4.2 image format
of HyperCard 2.1. - Not original media, these have been recovered and
converted from poor copies of the original installation disk set.
Now fully functional on any Mac (including emulators) or Mac clone,
from a Mac Plus to a PPC Mirrored Door G4, if capable of running a
native Mac OS, System 6.0.5 to 9.2.2

Important:

If you wish to run HyperCard 2.1 and are running a Mac OS 8.0 to
9.2.2, then you must first exchange the disk image files "HyperCard
Help.image" & "Your Tour of HyperCard.image" with the disk image
files of the same name, located in the folder "For Mac OS 8 - 9
only". Read the "ReadMe" file in that folder for full details.

How to install

There is no installer program included with this software. The
following steps need to be carried out manually:

(1.) Double-click the "Mount Disk Images" icon to mount all five
disk image files onto the desktop. "Mount Disk Images" is a Disk
Copy script file which requires Disk Copy 6.1.2 or newer
pre-installed on your Mac to run.

(1a.) Alternatively, these floppy disk images can be written to
800K "DD" floppy disks and installed (on Macs that support 800K
      floppy disk media).

(1b.) These disk images can also be dragged over onto
"ShrinkWrap 2.1" or newer, or a "Disk Copy 6.1.2" or newer
application icon, to launch and mount them onto the desktop.

(2.) If the now mounted icon "HyperCard Program" opens to a window at
this stage; Close it, as it isn't required to be open just yet.

(2a.) Drag the mounted icon, "HyperCard Program" to some
suitable location on your hard drive, into an "Applications"
folder for example. You should now see a folder named
"HyperCard Program" in the location you chose. Once copied to
your hard drive you can then drag the mounted "HyperCard
Program" disk icon from your desktop to the Trash to eject or
      dismiss it.

(3.) Drag the four remaining mounted disk icons "HyperCard Help,
HyperCard Stacks, More Stacks, Your Tour of HyperCard" into the
folder named "HyperCard Program" now located inside your hard drive.
Once they have copied into the "HyperCard Program" folder, you can
then drag their mounted disk icons to the Trash to eject or dismiss
them.

Running HyperCard for the first time:

(i.) Double-click the HyperCard icon to launch the program. HyperCard
opens to the 1st card of the "Home" stack. Do not click any of the
icons you see on this card, just yet. HyperCard icons only need to be
clicked once to launch and are not double-clicked, BTW.

(ii.) Go to "Card 6" of the Home stack (click the "Card 5" button in
the lower right corner of the Home stack's window, then click the
"arrow head" button in the bottom righthand corner, once).

Card 6 of the Home stack is entitled "Search Paths" and has a list of
folder names beneath the highlighted "Stacks" button. Some of the
names in this list need editing before you can begin using the icons
found on the 1st two cards of the "Home" stack, otherwise you will
get errors and HyperCard will throw up dialogs asking where is the
<stackname> who's icon you are clicking, etc.

The "Search Paths" card (Card 6) of the HyperCard 2.1 Home stack

Important: Note the colons ":" preceding each folder name in the
list, except for the "HyperCard Program" folder name. There is also a
trailing colon after each folder name in the list. Your list should
be changed here to look exactly as it does in this picture.

If it helps, copy and paste in the following list, into the Search
Paths card, replacing what is there on your first time of running
HyperCard 2.1

:HyperCard Help:
:HyperCard Stacks:
HyperCard Program:
:More Stacks:
:Your Tour of HyperCard:

(iii.) That's about it. You can now explore the rest of the included
HyperCard stacks by launching any of the icons located on the first 2
cards of the Home stack.

On mouseup :-)
